The Origins of DiMaX
As with most great ideas, the genesis of DiMaX was not a single event, however if we had to choose one, it would be a meeting during COVID between White House officials and Siemens executives.
It went something like this…
“In Norway there is a seed vault – a kind of Noah’s arc containing the seeds of every species of plant known to man. In the aftermath of a meteor strike, or nuclear winter, we will be able to reboot humanity.
“Now the earth may not be burning, but COVID has shown us that we have significant weaknesses as a nation. You see, much of our critical infrastructure and the spare parts required to maintain it is imported from China. As long as borders remain open and goods flow freely, we’re golden. But a pandemic, a war, hell – even a damned boat stuck in the Suez Canal, and things start breaking faster than we can fix them.
“What we need is a seed vault for critical infrastructure. We need to ensure that anything we acquire from overseas comes with a Digital Twin that we can keep in escrow in that vault. The day the Supply Chain breaks down for whatever reason, we open the vault and start making those parts on-demand until imports start flowing again.
“I’ve heard you boffins at Siemens know a thing or two about Digital Twins, and manufacturing too. So what’s it to be? Will you help save the United States of America?”
The rest is history.
